Along with identifying local NHS workers who require the bikes and delivering the bikes to them, Hounslow Council has been offering cycle training to ensure those who are new to cycling are road confident and safe.
Matthew Hogben, a resident in Hounslow and Oncogenetics Research Nurse at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Having the Brompton bike during this lockdown period has been very beneficial, it has meant that I can avoid public transport but has also helped me to keep fit for a part of my journey to work. It is very small and compact which means that it fits under the desk in the office. I would like to say a great big thank you to Hounslow Council and Brompton.”
Rachel Hyman, Senior Mammographer, West Middlesex Hospital, said: “The bike is great. I live too far to use the bike to commute to work but thanks to Brompton and Hounslow Council I now have a folded bike in my boot. I arrive early for my shift which means the traffic is lighter. Then I unfold the bike and cycle on the cycle paths around Syon Park for half an hour before I start work. It gives me both exercise and fun, allowing me to start my shift in a relaxed frame of mind which is good for me and my patients.”
Fomba Kallon, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, West Middlesex University Hospital said: “My Brompton Bike has been great for keeping me fit and getting around during lockdown.”
Brompton Bike Hire initiated the Wheel for Heroes campaign to support healthcare workers get to work safely during lockdown.
Cllr Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport and One Hounslow said, “This is a fantastic initiative set up by Brompton Bike Hire to support our healthcare workers who have gone above and beyond during this pandemic. Not only had this scheme offered our NHS workers another mode of transport but it has also had a positive impact on their wellbeing. Thank you to Brompton Bike Hire for supporting our local heroes.”
