As the lockdown measures are eased, and businesses start to reopen their doors, it is important that people return to our high streets and support our local economy.

We understand that the last few months have been very difficult for businesses, many of whom were forced to close for long periods. As these businesses open again, we are helping them to implement measures to be Covid-19 secure and to reassure the public that they can return to our high streets and shop safely.
Business support to keep you safe
Before reopening, each business is required to complete a full risk assessment to identify what they need to do to make sure their premises are safe. This includes having hand sanitizer, masks, and gloves for staff, and changing the layout of fixtures to enable people to move through their premises safely. We’re helping businesses re-open by providing guidance for their staff and customers, helpful guidance for risk assessments, free floor stickers and posters to guide customers, and allowing for additional space outside premises to accommodate social distancing. These measures will help you feel confident when you shop.
Travel with confidence
As Hounslow's economy restarts, we are encouraging all residents to walk or cycle wherever possible to keep roads clear for those who must drive. We have installed wider pavements and more cycling routes so you can travel and walk safely. Transport for London is also introducing new measures so that you can travel on public transport with confidence and follow social distancing where possible. Passengers must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth for their entire journey, including in stations, unless they are exempt. These include people who have trouble breathing and children. Additionally, face coverings should be worn by everyone in taxi and private hire vehicles for the duration of their journey.
What’s not open
At this stage, there are still a number of businesses not able to open. This includes barbers, hairdressers, hotels, spas, and nail salons. Please do not go to any of these places until the Government has permitted them to open.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services at Hounslow Council said:
“Our aim is to help business owners, their staff, and customers feel confident to return to our town centres while following public health and safety precautions. We know you may still feel nervous about going out but with appropriate measures in place, we can support our local economy safely and confidently.”
