People who live, work and travel in Hounslow are being encouraged to have their say on plans for a new London Overground service connecting Hounslow and Hendon.

Some journeys across West London could be more than 30 minutes quicker under plans for the proposed West London Orbital (WLO).

Transport for London (TfL) has launched its first public consultation on the proposed 18.5km route, which would bring existing rail lines currently used for freight into passenger use.

For Hounslow, the proposed service would provide London Overground connections from Hounslow, Isleworth, Syon Lane and Brentford, making it easier to travel across West and North West London. The route would also connect with the Elizabeth Line and future HS2 services at Old Oak Common.

For local people, that could mean quicker and easier journeys to work, college, appointments or to see friends and family. For businesses, it could mean better connections to workers, customers and the wider West London economy.

The WLO could also support Hounslow’s growth. TfL estimates the scheme could support more than 25,000 new homes and 11,500 jobs along the route while helping reduce congestion and encourage more sustainable travel.

The plans support Hounslow Council’s ambition for A Fairer Future where everyone benefits. A key part of that is making sure Hounslow’s strong economy, investment and connections create good jobs, better skills and opportunities for local people and businesses.

Councillor Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Hounslow Council, said: “Hounslow has a strong economy and huge potential for growth. The West London Orbital could help more local people and businesses benefit from that, with better connections to jobs and opportunities across West London.

“This is a chance to help shape the plans, so I’d encourage everyone who lives, works or travels in Hounslow to have their say.”

TfL wants to hear how people currently travel around West London, how the WLO could affect their journeys and what they think about the proposals.

The consultation is open until 18 November 2026.
