Months of creativity have come to life on Feltham High Street with the installation of colourful new community mosaic tree rings.
Created by pupils from Logic Studio School, Reach Academy, Reach Academy Hanworth Park, River Academy, Springwest Academy and St Lawrence Catholic Primary School, alongside local residents and community groups, the mosaics were designed during workshops held between January and March, led by artist Susie John alongside TimeGivers and Feltham Arts. The finished artworks have now been installed along the High Street, adding colour and character to the town centre.
Pupils from St Lawrence Primary School returned to Feltham High Street to see the finished mosaics, where they were joined by Cllr Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Hounslow Council, to celebrate the completion of the project.
The mosaics brighten the concrete tree rings that line the High Street, making them easier to see for pedestrians while creating a brighter, safer and more welcoming town centre.
The project was funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), with additional support from local employer Russell Finex, who has committed funding to help maintain the tree rings over the coming years.
Cllr Tom Bruce said: “These mosaics show what can be achieved when local people come together. Schoolchildren, residents and community groups have created something that reflects Feltham’s identity while making the High Street brighter, safer and more welcoming. It was great to join pupils at the newly installed tree rings and see the finished artwork they helped create. I hope residents and visitors enjoy these artworks for many years to come.”
The project forms part of Future Feltham, the Council’s long-term regeneration programme to create a more vibrant, welcoming and attractive town centre for residents, businesses and visitors. Alongside improvements to public spaces, Future Feltham is helping make the town centre a better place to live, work and visit.
