In a letter written to all key stakeholders and community groups this week, Hounslow Council has decided to suspend any announcements on awarding local projects a Thriving Community Fund. Originally, the council had intended to announce its first amount of funding to community projects by the end of April.

In the letter written by Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency she said:

“Firstly thank you to everyone who applied to the Thriving Communities Fund for 2020/21. As you know, our plans were to assess the applications received for the 2020/21 round and to announce the successful schemes at the end of last month.

“However, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to suspend the formal allocation process for the Thriving Communities Fund for 2020/21, and to redirect the available funding to where they are most needed to support the ability of voluntary and community groups to respond to the Borough’s response and recovery from the current crisis. In this regard, we envisage that our early response and recovery priorities which can assist voluntary and community groups will focus around key areas such as the community hub, victims of abuse and violence, the disabled, and BAME communities.

“We appreciate that this may be disappointing news as you will have put a lot of work into your application, but we trust that you will understand the reasons for our intended course of action. If your group is, or may provide services that directly support people affected by the Coronavirus, then please let me know so that we can consider your activities against our Covid-19 response and delivery priorities, and determine how best we may support you, which may be through support and advice, volunteering, direct enabling grant funding, or commissioning of specified services”.
