Hounslow residents are being reminded that Space Waye Reuse and Recycling Centre will be closed from Monday 3 October to Friday 4 November.

During this time, residents will be unable to use the site to deposit household waste and are asked to use neighbouring civic amenity sites or alternative ways to dispose of bulky items and household goods.

The decision to temporarily close Space Waye comes about following a delay to the new Materials Handling Facility being built at Southall Lane, which is due to open in mid-2017.

The closure will allow the Space Waye site to be remodelled to allow the borough’s new recycling vehicles to deposit residents’ household recycling. During the closure, the site will also be improved for residents to use with better lighting to enable extended opening hours and easier ways to deposit household waste.

When Space Waye reopens, on Saturday 5 November, it will only be available to the general public on weekends for health and safety reasons. During the week, the site will be used by recycling vehicles depositing the borough’s recycling.

Councillor Amrit Mann, deputy leader of Hounslow Council, said: “This is the last weekend before Space Waye closes for a month to allow us to remodel the site so it can be used to store the borough’s recycling.

“We have spread the word about changes to Space Waye far and wide to minimise disruption and provided lots of information on our website about nearby sites that residents can use, as well as other ways residents can get rid of unwanted items, such as using the Tidy Town bulky item collection service.

“While these changes are absolutely necessary they may cause some residents inconvenience, which I apologise for in advance.”

Weekend opening hours for residents will be extended once Space Waye reopens on 5 November:

  • Saturdays 8am-6pm
  • Sundays 8am-6pm

Those paying to use the site to deposit trade waste will only be able to use it Monday to Friday.

While Space Waye is closed, residents can use alternative sites within the West London Waste Authority (WLWA) area. Use of these sites is free when showing proof of address (Council Tax bill or recently dated utility bill) and proof of ID. Please check online before visiting each site for opening times and what materials are accepted.

The nearest sites alternative civic amenities sites for Hounslow residents are:

  • Greenford Road Reuse and Recycling Centre Greenford, UB6 9AP
  • Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre Townmead Road, Kew, TW9 4EL

Charges may apply when using other sites.
