Frontline health and social care staff: COVID vaccination

Care Homes

From Thursday 11 November 2021, anyone working or volunteering in a care home will need to be fully vaccinated against coronavirus, unless exempt.

If you're still yet to get your first or second dose and work or volunteer in a care home, or would like to do so, then you can still get vaccinated either by contacting your GP, by booking online on the National Booking System or by calling 119. Alternatively, you can look at our Local Vaccination Sites to see where we have walk in capacity this week.

Other Heath and Social Care settings

Unlike care homes, it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, but it is strongly encouraged to ensure that you are protecting yourself and others against COVID-19. You can still get your first or second vaccine regardless of your age- it's not too late! You can book via the National Booking System by calling 119, or by looking on our website to see any walk in availability. If you have any questions about the vaccine, you can read our FAQ or ask our team by emailing:

Second dose appointments

Regardless of where you had your first vaccination, you should receive your second vaccination eight weeks after the first. You can book after your first dose on the National Booking System or by calling 119.

Alternatively, you can find a walk in clinic that suits you, visit our coronavirus web page to find out when these are.

Booster vaccine

If you are a frontline health and social care worker (i.e. you are providing close-contact care to someone who is vulnerable to COVID-19), then you are eligible for a booster vaccination.

See more on questions around the booster vaccine. The booster can be administered 6 months after your second dose of your vaccination.

There are a number of ways of getting your booster vaccination. If you work for an NHS hospital trust, you will likely be offered it via your employer.

Your other options are:

  • If you are 50+ or with a clinical risk-  you can book via the National Booking System regardless of occupation
  • If you are under 50, you can book via the National Booking System- you will need to provide evidence of your eligibility with either a payslip or an ID card
  • There are limited appointments available via local Hospital Hubs. If you are unable to arrange your  vaccination via your employer or the National Booking System, then please email - and we would be happy to support you.
