Latest on keeping safe, accessing support and local services

My week by Cllr. Steve Curran 2020

23 - 27 March

It’s coming to the end of the first week of lock down! I’m sure it’s been very challenging for everyone, particularly those in vulnerable groups and families. Who would have thought we would have come to this, but these are unprecedented times which are not only affecting the country but Europe and the world.

As we continue to battle against this epidemic, it throws out new challenges every day for everyone, it’s crucial we protect our most vulnerable residents, particularly those identified by the NHS who must self-isolate for 12 weeks.

Many residents and businesses are now complying with Public Health England’s guidance with regard to social distancing, this is the most important action we all have responsibility to take.

We are working with MPS Hounslow and our Enforcement Team to ensure that those who may not be clear on what is required of them, can be encouraged to comply. I can assure you our officers and the Police have more important things to do than issue fines to people, so please comply.

I’m pleased to inform you that we have now launched our Community Support Hub.

I would like to thank all of our residents who supported the NHS, care and emergency services staff for their work last night, I took this video from my front door in Brentford, it made me feel very proud.

Also, I would like this opportunity to thank all of the council staff from housing officers, social workers, enforcement teams, to cleaners, maintenance, waste and recycling staff and many other staff who are retraining for everything they are doing to support our residents and many of whom are going above and beyond.

From the information we have, more challenging days lie ahead so over the next few weeks its vital that we comply with the guidance, we work together as a borough and as a community so that we can save lives. I’m sure when this is over, we will all be stronger for it.

Please take care and stay well.
