My Week by Cllr. Steve Curran 2019

15 - 19 April

Hello everyone, Monday was an exciting day, it was the first day of being in the new offices at Hounslow House.

The moves and facilities management teams did a great job over the weekend to ensure that everyone had moved in without a glitch. If you have the chance, please do pop into Hounslow House and have a look.

Our branded facilities include a new coffee bar, Coffee Republic, which is open to the public.

My first meeting of the day was with London’s Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, Justine Simmons and we discussed Hounslow’s Creative Enterprise Zone. We secured some funding, which is provided by the Mayor of London, for a Creative Enterprise Zone, ‘Great West Creatives’, to allow creative businesses in our borough to flourish by strengthening networks and engaging multi-national local businesses such as Sky, Disney and Paramount.

We’re also aiming to boost opportunities for employment for our residents in the creative industries with specialist skills training and business support.

In the evening, I attended the Labour Group Annual General Meeting (part 2). Here we debated and voted on nominations for planning committee panel and the chair of the overview and scrutiny panels. All this will be agreed at the next Borough Council meeting in May 21

Most of Tuesday was hum drum stuff in the office, however in the afternoon, I had the pleasure to meet with the new Chief Executive of Catalyst Housing, Ian McDermot. It was great to meet with him and discuss the opportunity for housing in Hounslow. As you know, we’ve pledged to build 5,000 homes for residents in our Corporate Plan. You can find out more about the 5000 pledge here.

Thursday was an important day as we carried out interviews for the Labour Group Political Assistant. This is a key role in providing support to me as the Leader of the council and to the rest of the Labour group. The minority group also has a political assistant.

On Friday afternoon, I will be attending Richmond Rugby Club as they play London Irish who will be moving to the new Brentford Football stadium on Lionel Road in the late summer of 2020.

On Saturday, I will hold my monthly surgery for residents. You can find out more about when my next surgery is by visiting the Hounslow Council website.

I’d like to send my commiserations to Brentford FC who unfortunately lost against Reading 2-1 last weekend, Brentford have two fixtures coming up, the first on Friday 19 April where they take on Millwall and on Bank Holiday Monday, the Bees are at home to Leeds United. I wish them the best of luck for both games and hope for a win or two.

I would like to wish everyone a very happy Easter, it will be quite warm this weekend so please make sure you are well hydrated, please also check up on more vulnerable members of the community and stay safe if you are out and about this weekend.
