Your food waste bin is collected weekly.
We supply two bins:

Lining your food waste bins
We recommend that your kitchen caddy is lined with a biodegradable food waste bag (displaying the EN13432 logo), kitchen towel, newspaper or shredded paper to make it easier to empty and to clean. You can also wrap food waste in newspapers or kitchen towel to help absorb any excess moisture.
The outdoor collection bin may also need to be lined to avoid food waste getting stuck to the bottom or sides. Our collection crews will apply a moderate tap to the food waste bin when emptying it but they cannot place their hands inside the bin to dislodge food waste.
Food waste bins with excess liquids and oils cannot be emptied and will need to be drained prior to the collection day.
Do not use any plastic bags in either of the bins.
Collection bins
Collections are made from the 25 litre collection bins. This should be placed out on your collection day alongside your recycling.
Please leave the handle either in the upright position or completely forward and down so that it locks the lid.
What happens to the collected food waste?
Once collected by Recycle 360 as part of your weekly recycling service, the food waste is taken by a specialist contractor called Bio Collectors to an anaerobic digester facility in Mitcham (in vehicles powered by food waste itself) where it produces methane gas and bio-fertiliser. This reduces our carbon footprint as is cuts down on the miles travelled and associated CO2 emissions.
- The methane gas is classified as renewable energy and is used to generate electricity and heat.
- The bio-fertiliser is used by farmers to replace artificial fertilisers, which have a significant environmental impact.
Visit the Bio Collectors website for more information.
