Caretaking and grounds maintenance

Grounds maintenance, trees and plants

Grounds maintenance is regular garden care to communal areas on all council housing estates. It is carried out by a council team dedicated to providing this service.

The grounds maintenance we do includes the following:

  • Grass cutting.
  • Weeding.
  • Maintenance of flowerbeds.
  • Removing hazards such as overhanging branches, tree pruning and unturned roots.
  • Garden maintenance for disabled or elderly people.
  • Pruning shrubs and nuisance pruning in winter.

If the grass in your communal area has not been cut, you can report this to our Customer Service Centre by telephoning 020 8583 4000 or by email.

Please note: that this type of maintenance is seasonal and dependent on weather conditions. Poor weather will mean schedules will be affected.

Homes with gardens

If you are living in a council property with a garden, it is your responsibility to keep the garden neat and tidy and clear of rubbish. You are also responsible for maintaining any trees in your garden.

Garden maintenance scheme

We provide a garden maintenance scheme for people over 60 years old or disabled people, who have no family or friends in the area that can help with keeping their garden neat and tidy.

You can request an application form for this scheme from our Customer Service Centre by telephoning 020 8583 4000.

Trees in communal areas

Trees in communal areas are surveyed every 4 years by an external contractor. If you think that there is an issue with a tree on the communal areas of your estate, please contact our Customer Service Centre on 020 8583 4000 or by email.

Our council policy requires that we do not remove trees unless they are dead, diseased or dangerous (threat to property or building). We do not carry out any work to trees when birds/bats are nesting, nor do we cut back a tree solely due to it blocking light.

Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed is becoming an increasing problem in many areas. If you suspect you have Japanese Knotweed on your property, please report this to our Customer Service Centre on 020 8583 4000 or by email at customerservicecentre@hounslow.gov.uk
