Teenage pregnancy

The Sexual Health Service aims to provide sexual healthy support and advice to young people including those who are pregnant or who are young parents.

Our purpose includes:

  • reducing conceptions and sexually transmitted diseases
  • support young parents to remain in education during and after the pregnancy
  • give them the best opportunities possible for future education, employment and training
  • improving support from antenatal through to postnatal period
  • we also offer support in areas such as smoking, high aspirations and heightened self-esteem

A young person could be referred for reasons including:

  • needing sexual health information and advice
  • support to return into education, training and employment
  • support in being a teenage mother or father
  • Family Nurse Partnership Support
  • attending our Young Parents ‘Stay and Play’ Group
     

Effective Sexual Health Advice Service

A young person's access to contraception and advice is a crucial factor in reducing teenage pregnancy.  Sexual Health Hounslow run a free clinic, where young people have access to confidential advice and support.

Emergency contraception

If a young person thinks they are pregnant because of unprotected sex in the last 72 hours (3 days) they can take emergency contraception, also known as the morning-after pill to prevent unintended pregnancy.  The earlier they take this the more effective it is likely to be.
