Abandoned vehicles on private land

If you know that the abandoned vehicle is on private land, please report it below.

We are responsible for removing abandoned vehicles from the public highway. An abandoned vehicle is generally a vehicle that has come to the end of its life, has no owner and has therefore been disowned.

The following categories are generally associated with abandoned vehicles:

  • stationary for a significant amount of time (at least 2 months)
  • significantly damaged, run down or unroadworthy
  • burned out
  • lacking one or more of its registration plates
  • build up of dirt around vehicle

If a vehicle is displaying an expired tax disc, is poorly parked or does not belong to a resident living in the road, it doesn't necessary mean it has been abandoned.

We do not remove untaxed vehicles and these should be reported to the DVLA by calling 0300 790 6802 or via the GOV.UK website.

Please note: that owners have up to 28 days to renew their tax. We do not deal with foreign vehicles and these should be reported to the DVLA.

If you are reporting an abandoned vehicle, please ensure it falls into the above mentioned categories or it will not be dealt with.

When reporting an abandoned vehicle, please provide the following information to help us with your enquiry.

These are:

  • vehicle registration number
  • make, model and colour
  • exact location of vehicle
  • tax expiry date
  • how long it has been abandoned
  • condition of vehicle

Please remember if we do not have the above information we cannot investigate the issue.
