My Week by Cllr. Steve Curran - 2018

30 July – 3 August

You may have heard about the recent fire that completely destroyed a significant number of allotments and sheds on Stanley Road. Seventy firefighters and council staff were swift to respond to the incident and the fire was prevented from spreading – a sincere thanks to all the teams involved. One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but thankfully there were no further injuries reported. On Sunday I visited the scene of the fire and spoke to Fire officers, police and council staff, and was shown the extent of the damage.

Early in the week, I had an interesting meeting to discuss ongoing improvements to Dukes Meadows. Emergency roof repairs were carried out on the Boat House, which is showing its age. It’s clear to see it has passed its best so will we continue to explore options to upgrade the Boat House for the benefit of Hounslow residents.

On Wednesday I had a day packed with meetings, including my usual weekly leaders meeting. In the evening I was invited to the Mayor’s parlour to meet some of our community champions. We were delighted to meet representatives from the Heston Action Group who are particularly concerned about their environment, especially littering and fly-tipping. They are doing a fantastic job on behalf of their community and it’s very much appreciated by the council.

On Thursday morning I teamed up with Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, as we were invited to visit Hanworth Park House. We were able to see for ourselves the condition of the building and to discuss how we can work together to see the house restored to its former glory.

On Saturday, I will be attending the ribbon cutting event at the refurbished New Chiswick Pool with the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Samia Chaudhury and Cllr Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services. We will also hopefully be joined by many residents who are invited to help celebrate occasion.

Finally, as the London Council’s new Capital Ambition Board Chair, I’ve started a (another!) blog on the London Ventures portfolio. In my first post, you can find out about the work of London Ventures, the type of innovation they have supported and their plan for the future. You can have a read here.

Have a lovely weekend all.
