8 - 13 April
Saturday 8 April
As I mentioned last week, on Saturday I was attending the ‘Be a Councillor’ event in Feltham, organised by the Labour Party. It was very well attended with over 40 potential candidates. We were joined by our local MPs - Ruth Cadbury and Seema Malhotra.
In the afternoon, there was a festival for the Janahanda Foundation UK to celebrate the Srilankan New Year. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend, but I understand the event was a success. Happy New Year to all.
Sunday 9 April
Today, I was out canvassing after a hearty breakfast in the Noshery Café in Isleworth. We then pounded the streets for a couple of hours and as usual, a good reception received from residents. We spoke to many in Primrose Place and surrounding roads. In the afternoon, I went to watch my son play in the Surrey under 21s semi-final for Richmond against Cobham. Fortunately, his team ran out winners (just 19-18). Richmond will now play KCS old boys in the final at Dorking FC on Monday 17 April.
Monday 10 April
This morning, I had my regular meeting with Ruth Cadbury, MP in Brentford over a coffee. It was good to catch up with Ruth on constituency issues and how they relate to the work of the council. The rest of the day was dealing with casework and emails. In the evening I had a meeting with our Chief Whip, Cllr Rajawat, to discuss the forthcoming AGM for the Labour Group.
Tuesday 11 April
Tuesday, I wasn’t feeling chipper, so didn’t go into the office. I had to send my apologises only for one event, which we can re-arrange.
Wednesday 12 April
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of meeting Christine Diwell and Rosemary Bunce from the Isleworth Society. I had a great time being shown some of the gems of Isleworth, particularly along the river near All Saints Church and the London Apprentice. The Isleworth Society does a fantastic job, not only for the residents of Isleworth but the borough. We also had a chance to walk through Silverhall Park and watch some new trees being planted.
The rest of the morning was meetings and emails.
In the late afternoon, I met with the Brentford Air Quality Action Group, recently formed by residents in Brentford. We are working closely with them to improve air quality and they are doing some great work. If you are interested in supporting them, you can contact them here
Afterwards, I attended the farewell party for Sue Jeffers, General Manager of the CCG, who is retiring after a distinguished career in the Health Service. Sue has done a fantastic job. On behalf of the residents of Hounslow, I would like to wish her and her family all the best for the future.
Last meeting of the day was the Isleworth and Brentford Labour Party Branch meeting, held at Isleworth Public Hall. A very interesting evening as always. Followed by a beer in the Swan Public House.
Thursday 13 April
On Thursday I had a series of meetings. At 3pm I attended the Licensing Panel Meeting.
Good luck to Brentford FC this Easter weekend, they’re playing at home against Derby County tomorrow and then away playing Barnsley on Bank Holiday Monday.
