My Week by Cllr. Steve Curran

18 - 21 April

Monday 17 April

I hope everyone has enjoyed a good Easter weekend.

As always, I would like to thank all those council staff and emergency services who work throughout this time.

Many residents would have seen the tweet sent out by Raj Kohli, Hounslow Police’s Borough Commander

Thanks to all those who have sent me messages about this.

Bank Holiday Monday today and I spent a nice day with the family.

Tuesday 18 April

This morning I had a round of general one to one meetings with council staff. Like many people, I was really surprised at the announcement from the Prime Minister Theresa May today of a snap General Election for 8 June.

It is something we are all now working towards, including making sure our residents are registered for voting and have all the information they need for registering to vote and voting on the day. Find out more by visiting our website

With the General Election being called, the Council along with all other local governments now enter into Purdah – which is a period leading up to the General Election in which we have to follow strict guidelines around publicity.

I will continue to blog every week but there will be constraints on what I will be able to talk about. It will be business as usual again from after 8 June.

This evening we had Cabinet meeting and discussed a series of reports and policies.

Wednesday 19 April

Today I had my weekly one to one meeting with our Chief Executive Mary Harpley, followed by the regular Leaders meeting, hosted by Mary, myself and Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader.
During this meeting, we discussed the forthcoming General Election and the work that needs to be done between now and election day.

Thursday 20 April

I was out and about in the borough today and caught up on calls and messages.

I was saddened to hear of the incident that took place in Paris today, especially for the family and friends of the police officer who lost his life – our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.  Hounslow is twinned with Issy-les-Moulineaux, a suburb just outside Paris, and our thoughts are also with our friends there.

Friday 21 April

I am out of the office today, spending time with family.

This Sunday, 23 April is St George’s Day and we will be flying the St George’s Cross flag at the Civic Centre, in honour of the patron saint of England, Saint George.

Happy St George’s Day to all those residents who will be celebrating on Sunday.

Congratulations to all those players selected for the British and Irish Lions rugby squad. If like me you are a rugby fan, you will be looking forward to this tour!

Good luck to Brentford FC this weekend, they host a London derby against Queens Park Rangers at Griffin Park tomorrow, Saturday.
