Elections Act

Requirement to show Photo ID at Polling Stations

You’ll have to show an official form of photo identification (ID) when you attend a polling station to vote in:

  • Local government elections, UK parliamentary by-elections and recall petitions from 4 May 2023

  • UK Parliamentary elections after 5 October 2023.

Please note - the London Borough of Hounslow do not have any scheduled elections until May 2024.

Expired photo identification will be accepted so long as the photo remains a good enough likeness from which to identify the elector. See the full list of acceptable photo ID.

If you do not have an official form of accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by visiting voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk and completing an application.
