There are lots of opportunities for young people across the Borough

It is important for all the opportunities listed below to check the entry requirements and to get in touch with the organisers.  

  • Ignite Programme, starting September 2021: Sky is offering one year apprenticeships in Sky Sports, Sky News and Sky Studios. The roles will be rotational and will allow young people to experience a variety of roles in the area of Sky that they chose to apply for. Find out more and sign up here.
  • Spear Programme start date 22 June 2021: The Spear Programme equips you with the skills, mindset and resources you need to get into work or education, including interview techniques, cover letter advice, and growing your confidence. In its current online delivery, the Spear Programme is crafted to address some of the specific challenges of the COVID-19 employment climate. It is delivered remotely, meaning it provides immediate and accessible support. Register your interest.

Ongoing Opportuntities:

Work Hounslow are the Skills and Employment Team for the London Borough of Hounslow. The team work with Hounslow residents who are unemployed, self-employed and running a business as either sole trader or micro business, as well as those who are in low-paid work and those wishing to either re-skill or up-skill. They have a brand new website which showcases the latest jobs across the Borough. Visit the website and live opportunities here

The Open University, a world leader in open and distance learning, and all OpenLearn courses are free to study. They offer nearly 1000 free courses across 8 different subject areas. Find out more here

The Prince's Trust host a range of different activities for young people in Hounslow. Upcoming activities include:

  • Get Started in Animal Care (16-25) : The Prince’s Trust and Vauxhall City Farm are offering a free animal care course for young people who are not in education, training or employment and interested in gaining experience in animal care and welfare with a focus on farm animals. Taster Day: Tuesday 8 June, Main Programme: Monday 14  – Friday 18 June.   • Explore (16-25): Explore is a 5-week personal development programme which offers young people group activities and one-to-one support to help build confidence, get motivated, meet new people and identify and achieve their goals. We also develop employability and independent living skills. Personal development qualifications are available in Interpersonal and Self-management Skills, Participating in Exercise, Healthy Lifestyle, Career Planning, Money Management, and Presentation Skills. Group Induction: Monday 14 June via Microsoft Teams.   • Get Started with London Zoo (16-25): London Zoo is hosting a course to learn about and design an ethical animal enclosure. Participants will learn from the experts about the different elements of an animal enclosure that should be considered and work together to create a design for the Zoo. Taster Day: Wednesday 30 June, Main Programme: Monday 5 – Friday 9 July.   • Achieve: The Achieve programme aims to create opportunities for young people by helping them to increase their confidence and develop the skills that they need to succeed in whatever they choose to do next. For more information email natalie.west@bdc.ac.uk
