Grab your litter picks and pack some bin bags, because it’s time for a bit of a Spring Clean. Hounslow Council is encouraging residents, community groups, schools and borough businesses to get involved with the Great British Spring.

The annual national event is run environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy and runs from Friday, 25 March until Sunday, 10 April. This year’s campaign message is a simple: join the #BigBagChallenge and pledge to pick up as much litter as possible.

Communities across Hounslow have been strong supporters of the campaign in previous years. The Council is working with partners across the community to ensure we keep the borough clean and tidy.

How to get involved

Register your event

Pledge as an individual or group.

Plan your clean up event and simply pledge on the Keep Britain Tidy’s website as an individual or group, and let them know how many bags you pledge to pick up. Pledge at:: www.keepbritaintidy.org.

We can help

Once you have registered, tell us about the clean-up event you are planning by emailing: Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk. The Council can provide free bags and lend you litter pickers for your event. We will also organise for your bagged waste to be collected after the clean-up.

Tell the world

If you’ve followed the first two steps, you should be all set to go. So, why not let everyone know what you’re doing?

You can promote your event on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram - Don't forget to tag us on Twitter (@LBofHounslow), Facebook (hounslowcouncil), Instagram (hounslowcouncil) and include the #BigBagChallenge and #CleanerGreenerHounslow too, so that you link in with the main campaign online.

After the clean up

Submit your results on Keep Britain Tidy’s website here and tell us how many bags of waste you've collected! Take photos of your clean up, with details of those involved, and we will share your efforts on social media to inspire others to get involved as well. Please send to Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk.

It doesn’t end there

There’s always more we can all do to keep Hounslow looking great. Here are some ideas:

Do more by becoming an Environmental Champion?

A Environmental Champion is a volunteer who runs their own activities to make the borough a cleaner and greener place to live. By joining Hounslow’s network of environmental volunteers, you’ll be supported to help wildlife flourish, beatify your street, plant and care for trees, or organise community events in your local area.
