About Amy Tickner
Hello, my name is Amy and I work at The Arts Centre, Hounslow. I have background in theatre and work as a theatre director, producer, and facilitator. Alongside my love of theatre, I have always been passionate about music and what it means to different people in different corners of the world. I can play a few instruments, enjoy listening to all kinds of music, and love attending live music performances, concerts, and festivals with my friends and family. Having only started working in Hounslow recently I wanted to use this project to connect with local artists through something that I am passionate about. I believe that music can change people’s moods, bring people together, and create atmospheres like no other medium can and I am so excited to use this project to celebrate that. It has been an absolute joy to launch Hounslow’s World Music Trail and I have had so much fun meeting new people and listening to their music and their stories. I have made new connections with people and had the opportunity to listen to new instruments and new sounds. I hope as you listen through this trail you learn to love people and music just as much as I do.

I’m an aspiring musician who wants people to find feeling and relatability in my music. I want the listener to be taken on a journey and to show them how important music is to me and my life. Music shapes the world around us, it’s everywhere, in shops, films, and TV. It’s prevalence signifies it’s importance which is one of the reasons why I took the opportunity to share my own music with you.

I’d describe myself as retro modern, in a world of very tech savvy minds! Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, music has been, and continues to be, a constant and everlasting companion in my life. My music, be it genres, styles, instrumentals, and personal favourites, are eclectic.
I love learning to play my left handed acoustic guitar and I love to sing, and write songs. I’ve been told my writing for that matter is prolific, but music is something that gives my soul, mind and body true and wholesome groundedness and balance.

I am an English teacher and a semi-professional musician. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than playing the violin! I originally learnt to play by the Suzuki Method, at the age of 4, in Manchester where I was born, so I can play by ear. I play from the heart and love connecting with my audience. Much of my professional music work has been playing at weddings and social functions as a soloist or as first violin with a local string quartet. I also perform with the band ‘Republic of Brentford’ on violin and vocals. I play with two local amateur orchestras ‘Hounslow Symphony Orchestra’ and ‘Kew Sinfonia’. I am an extremely flexible performer and can read music or play by ear as necessary. I love jamming and improvising with local Brentford musicians. I look forward to entertaining you!
