Delivering cleaner streets and a better environment for everyone.

The appearance and cleanliness of Hounslow’s streets is one of the most important parts of our service. We want our borough to be one where businesses choose to operate from and where people want to live, visit and relax.

With new equipment and new ways of working, we want to keep our streets and public places as clean as possible.

We are responsible for cleansing the public roads, footways, footpaths and grassed areas which form the ‘Project Network’.  This is the network that Hounslow Highways is responsible to maintain.

Cleansing of these roads and footpaths, includes the removal of waste arising from litter including detritus, leaf, blossom, twigs, dust and decayed matter, weed growth, staining, fly-posting and graffiti.

How do we do it?

  • Our cleansing schedule works on a ward based system. Each residential road will be visited once every two weeks to clean the publicly maintained roads and footways within the Project Network. A team of operatives, supported by a dedicated mechanical sweeper and bag removal crew will be in the ward to remove litter and the build-up of areas of residual waste (detritus).
  • We also operate a Deep Cleanse programme, coordinated with suspending parking, to target specific areas across the borough that suffer from built up detritus partly as a result of parked cars presenting an obstruction.  Details of this programme are available on our Deep Cleanse page.
  • The cleansing programme ensures routine sweeper visits of less highly parked roads, using one of the 8 mechanical sweepers we have.  You may have seen the new sweepers out and about.  For more details click here.
  • We have dedicated operatives delivering daily and two or three times a week cleansing, of high footfall areas and shopping parades.
  • In addition to the above, we ensure the emptying of approximately 700 street litter bins on a routine basis and are enforcing and removing nearly 2,000 fly tips a month.
  • Dedicated enforcement officers out and about in the borough daily, enforcing and progressing prosecutions for fly tipping and other litter offences. Please click here for more information about fly tipping.
  • We report waste and recycling spillages and missed collections directly to Lampton 360 on the day it occurs.  Please note spillage can only be classed as ‘spillage’ if it is dropped in the process of the waste being collected from the receptacles and transferred to the trucks.  If you observe this, then please report it immediately to recycling@hounslow.gov.uk.
We hope the above details how we are working to keep the borough clean, as we operate a cleansing regime that supports Hounslow’s residents and visitors to enjoy where they live, visit and work.
