Planning enforcement

Most people are affected by planning decisions in one way or another.

If development is carried out without planning permission or without properly following the detailed plans that have been approved by us, serious harm can sometimes be caused to the way in which people live.

Residents and businesses have a right to expect that harmful activities, where there is a breach of planning control, are dealt with effectively.

When we receive a complaint, we will first look at whether planning permission was needed for the development or use that is being complained about. It is very helpful to us if you can give as much information as possible, such as photographs, measurements, details of how much activity is taking place, how often etc. If planning permission is needed for the development, a site visit will be carried out.

Many complaints can be resolved through negotiation, although formal enforcement action will be taken to remove unauthorised structures or uses that are harming neighbours or the character and appearance of an area

Contact us to report unauthorised structures, land uses and advertisements.
