More than 600 of the borough’s schoolchildren were lighting the way for the Olympic Torch when they held their own Hounslow Schools Olympic Torch relay this week (Monday 25 June).
With just a month to go until the Olympic Torch passes through the borough on 24 July, pupils from 51 primary and special schools, supported by 150 Sports Leaders from 13 secondary schools, each created their own torch and carried it to Osterley Sports and Athletics Centre. Ten were shortlisted and shown to the spectators which included the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Pritam Grewal, the two local MPs and other VIPs.
The children also took part in an array of games and activities which celebrate the Olympics and the Olympic and Paralympic values.

The Hounslow Schools Olympic Torch Relay is part of the HOTS (Hounslow Hold onto sport) Project, which is the London 2012 Inspire Project for Hounslow.
Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Pritam Grewal, said: "The Olympic Torch relay will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for the borough, and it was wonderful to see the children creating their own version of this historic event.
"All the pupils had clearly put in a tremendous amount of work to design their torches, and they also thoroughly enjoyed the games and sporting activities that took place through the day.
"It was really great to see so many schools taking part, and I hope that the children will also be lining the streets when the Olympic Torch passes through the borough on 24 July."
