A special service honouring the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces is being held by the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Pritam Grewal, ahead of Armed Forces Day (30 June).
Taking place at Hounslow Civic Centre on Monday 25 June at 10.25am, the service will mark the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag in the presence of representatives from all of the armed forces, the Royal British Legion and the uniformed civilian forces.
Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Pritam Grewal, said: "It is right and proper for us to honour the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community for their service, and I am proud to be able to host this service.
"Many armed forces personnel are currently serving in countries around the world, including our own 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, who are based at Hounslow Cavalry Barracks, and this is our way of showing support for their work.
"However, it is also an opportunity to thank not just the serving troops but also the Service families, veterans and cadets, and also the uniformed civilian forces for their contribution.”
The national event has been organised by the Ministry of Defence with the aim of uniting the nation and honouring Britain’s Armed Forces past and present.
The raising of the Armed Forces Day flag by all borough, district, city and county councils in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man will start a week of events and activities culminating on Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June.
