Don't drink and drive during Euros

Mon, 18 June 2012

As Euro 2012 is now well underway, the council has launched a campaign to remind fans about the dangers of drink driving.

The campaign includes bus adverts urging drivers to leave the car at home if they are planning on drinking whilst watching any of the games.

Cllr Colin Ellar, cabinet member for environment at the council, said: "It’s always nice to try to enjoy the games with friends and family in the pub, but we don’t want people to ruin a good time by drinking and driving.

"It’s not just after the games themselves, as sometimes, normally responsible people will drive the following morning without realising they are still over the limit.

"Even small amounts of alcohol can affect your ability to drive so I hope people act responsibly when they are enjoying the matches over the next few weeks.

"This doesn’t apply solely to the England games, as we have so many different countries’ fans in the borough, so I urge everyone to act responsibly and not risk their own, and other people’s safety."

The posters are running on buses across the borough throughout the tournament.
