Hounslow gears up for a right royal weekend

Wed, 23 May 2012

The Diamond Jubilee weekend is only a fortnight away, and there’s lots going on across the borough to provide an opportunity for Hounslow residents to celebrate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Hounslow’s lead member for the Olympics, said: "This is a great opportunity to come together to celebrate a truly momentous occasion, and to pay tribute to the sixty years of service the Queen has given us.

"We’re linking into the national celebrations with a mustering point in Chiswick for some of the boats taking part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, and lighting our own beacon in Lampton Park as part of the national Jubilee Beacons project.

"There are also many other events that have been organised across the borough, from the large-scale Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and screening of Alice in Wonderland at Boston Manor House to smaller events like the Royal British Legion’s Party on the Green in Isleworth, or the Jubilee Picnic, arranged by local residents on the Brabazon Estate for everyone on the Brabazon, Scotts Gardens, Harlech Gardens and Redwood Estates in Heston.

"We’ve also approved 39 applications for street parties taking place across the borough from the 2nd to the 5th, so it’s clear that everyone is definitely gearing up for a very busy long weekend!"

The council is also hoping to hear from anyone who was born in February 1952, the month of the Queen’s ascension to the throne. Those who come forward will receive a special invitation to the lighting of the beacon in Lampton Park as a guest of the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Pritam Grewal. Contact Julie Davies, PA to the Mayor, on 020 8583 2243 or email Julie.davies@hounslow.gov.uk for more details.
