Council nearly doubles number of foster care enquiries

Thu, 24 May 2012

Hounslow Council’s campaign to find more loving families for local children has got off to a great start.

So far this month, 60 people have been in touch with the council to find out more about fostering, compared to just 34 last year.

Cllr Lily Bath, cabinet member for children and families, said: “The response has been wonderful, and I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to contact us.

“Now these people have to decide if becoming a foster carer is something they want to pursue, and if it is, we will support them all along the way.

“Our training and support package is well-regarded by our foster carers, and those who transfer to us from independent fostering agencies are pleasantly surprised by what we have to offer.

“We always have children and young people who need fostering in the borough, so I strongly encourage anyone who thinks they could offer a safe and welcoming home to get in touch.”

As well as advertising across the borough, staff from the fostering team have been giving people the chance to find out more at a series of information stalls in Hounslow, Feltham and Staines, and at information sessions being held at the Civic Centre.

A further session is being planned for Chiswick next month.
