Frequently asked questions for headteachers

Q: What do I do if there is a single suspected case in my school?

A: Contact LBH Health & Safety who will provide advice, including access to testing

Q: What do I do when I have a single confirmed case of coronavirus in my school?

A: Contact Public Health England London Coronavirus Response Cell (PHE LCRC) on 0300 303 0450 and inform the Hounslow Public Health team (publichealth@hounslow.gov.uk)

Q: Can school staff get tested without symptoms?

A: Yes, in Hounslow, all school staff are considered keyworkers and are therefore able to get tested with or without symptoms.

There is a wide range of testing options available, including drive-through appointments, pedestrian appointments, and home testing kits. You can book an appointment via the government portal for keyworkers.

Q: I have a child in my school who is Aerosol Generating. What PPE do my staff need to wear?

A: Any staff working with the child within two metres (e.g. performing suctioning etc) will need to wear full PPE (FFP3 mask, gloves, apron). School staff can be trained how to don and doff PPE and will need to be fit tested for the FFP3 masks.

If this is the case, please contact the Children’s Commissioner, ellie.tobin@hounslow.gov.uk - to arrange a fit testing appointment for your staff.

Q: I’m struggling to access testing for my students/ staff. What do I do?

A: Contact the Public Health Team (publichealth@hounslow.gov.uk) who will be able to support you.
