Walking

Hounslow Health Walks is part of the national Walking for Health scheme hosted by Natural England.

What are health walks?

A health walk has been designed to help improve your health but also encourage you to walk in your local area and discover the natural environment that’s on your doorstep.

Local walks

Hounslow Health Walks is an accredited scheme, so you can be assured that our walks are of good quality. All of our walks use local parks and green spaces across the borough.

Our walks are approximately 40 minutes long, wheelchair friendly and suitable for beginners.

Walking is the easiest cheapest form of exercise that you can do at anytime and anywhere, all you will need is a comfortable pair of shoes!.

Remember the Hounslow Health Walks scheme is FREE and a great way to get you started in improving your health.

Benefits of walking

Walking has many benefits, it can

  • help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol

  • help reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes and heart disease

  • help strengthen bones and joints and improve balance

  • help manage your weight

  • help improve muscle strength; and

  • increase your energy levels.

Walking with other people as part of a group also

  • allows you to socialise

  • make new friends; and

  • reduce stress.

Become a walk leader

All of our walks are led by volunteer walk leaders. Walk leaders help register you on the scheme and also support you throughout the walk. Without the commitment and dedication of our volunteers, Hounslow Health Walks simply wouldn’t exist.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer walk leader, please call us on 020 8240 4211 for more information.

Training and support is given to all of our volunteers.

Interested?

If you would like to come along to any of the health walks just call on the number below to ensure you have the latest information on each walk. At your first walk you will be given a registration form that asks you some information about yourself and how active you are. You only have to fill this in once and you can then attend any of the walks. You will be given a registration card, simply take the card along to any of the walks and join in for free.

If you have a particular health condition it is recommended that you speak to your GP before taking part. You may not have to arrange an appointment in their surgery to do this as many GPs now offer a phone call where a physical meeting is not needed.
