We often hear announcements about “delays occurring due to an accident”, but tend to focus on the ‘delays’ aspect while the word ‘accident’ usually fades into the background.
In London alone during 2004 there were:
35,000 accidents, 3,000 involving under 16 years olds
More than 4,000 people killed or seriously injured
By driving more slowly and sensibly we can massively reduce these figures, but we can also help by teaching the pedestrians and cyclists of tomorrow how to navigate our roads properly. Road safety is literally a skill for life and, like most skills, you can only learn it by doing it.
