The maximum permitted weight of lorries is 44 tonnes. All bridges in the borough have been assessed to see if they can cope with this safely.
We have carried out an assessment of 27 bridges and discovered that 15 of these fail to meet the loading requirements. 8 of these bridges have been reconstructed or strengthened. Loading restrictions are in force on the remaining 7 bridges.
We have formed key partnership with the London Office Bridge Engineering Group in order to secure funding for the strengthening of council’s bridge stock.
