Under special circumstances, roads can be closed to allow sporting events or parades to take place.
Closure of a road to general traffic requires a traffic regulation order accompanied by the written agreement of the police. The costs involved in closing-off the road and providing diversion information must be borne by the organiser of the event.
Notice of at least six weeks is required, but notice periods of three months or more may be needed in the case of larger events which require greater organisation.
Closure of a road for sporting events can normally take place only once a year unless consent is granted by the Secretary of State.
Demonstrations
We do not deal with demonstrations. The police must be contacted so that they can make the appropriate arrangements for such an event to take place.
