Hounslow Council

Local Implementation Plan 2006-2016

Following the publication of the new Mayor of London's transport strategy in May 2010, we are currently finalising our new Local Implementation Plan (2011-2031).

Consultation closed on 31 March 2011 and the new Local Implementation Plan will be considered by the council's Executive on 14 June, after which it is expected to be submitted to Transport for London for their approval on behalf of the Mayor of London, which is expected in September 2011.

Pending final approval of the new Local Implementation Plan (2011-2031), the existing Local Implementation Plan (2006-2016) remains as our transport strategy.  This document was correct at the time of publication (July 2007).  However, it contains some information that is now out of date.  For example, some of the charges and procedures set out in the Parking and Enforcement Plan have now been replaced by new charges and processes, about which any enquiries should be directed to parking@hounslow.gov.uk.

Hounslow has produced a five-year transport plan that provides policies and proposals for the borough for the implementation of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy in its area.

Each London borough under the Greater London Authority Act (1999) requires a Local Implementation Plan (LIP).

Hounslow has established five transport objectives to link to the council’s executive priorities.  These are:

1. Safe – Making the transport environment in Hounslow safer and helping people feel more secure within the public realm.

2. Accessible – Making Hounslow more accessible for everyone

3. Green – Encouraging change towards sustainable forms of travel and the promotion of healthy lifestyles

4. Efficient – Making the transport network more integrated and efficient

5. Attractive – Enhancing the public realm

In developing the LIP, we have established 31 policies  to support these objectives. There are 44 specific proposals covering a wide range of programmes to allow us to meet our objectives, subject to funding, over a ten year period.

The LIP will enable us to bid annually for funds from Transport for London (TfL) to improve our streets, town centres and transport interchanges and continue to undertake TfL-funded road safety, highways improvements and sustainable travel programmes.

The Mayor of London approved the London Borough of Hounslow's LIP on 10 July 2007.
