10. Introduce CCTV to more of the borough
We asked residents what would help them feel safer in their neighbourhoods and communities, and help to deter crime they consistently tell us more and better CCTV.
To help people feel proud of their neighbourhood we have invested in a pioneering scheme with the local police.
The ground-breaking system will be shared by the council and local police, and will bring together existing CCTV systems to ensure unprecedented coverage across the borough.
There will also be new cameras at ten key sites across the borough where information from the police, council and other local agencies shows there is a need. We are also expanding existing wireless networks to make it easier for portable cameras to be put up around the borough.
Alongside the new cameras, a purpose-built community safety control room has been set up and is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Operators can pan, tilt and zoom the cameras and police will be able to take full control if an incident occurs that they need to monitor.
Further steps are being taken to achieve integration to Transport for London CCTV assets to ensure a comprehensive range of information is available to relevant organisations responding to civil emergencies.
