Hounslow Chronicle is 150 years old!
When George Thomason set up the Middlesex Chronicle 150 years ago, the stage coaches that had brought the town prosperity had stopped, and many people would have wondered how the town could once again flourish.
When the railway and underground arrived new housing development meant there was greater demand for services. This led to new buildings for Hounslow Town School, and a brand new Hounslow Heath Parochial School was built.
Thomason would have seen and reported on these stories of their day, much as today’s Chronicle reports on the plans for the future of the town, and the work being done to rebuild our current schools.
It is by covering these kinds of issues - issues that matter to local people - that organisations like the Chronicle, and us here in the council, can build and maintain strong links to the community we serve.
For any local business to reach this landmark age shows a great commitment to keeping strong links to the community.
The Chronicle has been a strong voice for local people over all this time, and like us, is proud of the area is serves, and the people we represent.
I hope everyone at the Chronicle is proud of the long history behind them, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in future, to deliver a Hounslow we can all be proud of.
