A recent report by the Town and Country Planning Association described Heathrow’s history as “a series of minor planning disasters that together make up one of the country’s truly great planning catastrophes”.
Despite this, the government is determined to push ahead with the biggest programme of expansion the country has ever seen.
This will mean more runways, more terminals, more planes, more noise, more pollution and more misery for more than 2 million people living under Heathrow’s flightpaths.
This will have a profound impact on the local environment and the health of local residents.
Hounslow Council is also concerned that further expansion will mean:
More congestion problems around Heathrow and on the M3, M4, M25
More congestion problems on the local road network
Huge pressure on local housing, schools and social infrastructure
Finally, the increase of flights in Europe’s most congested airspace also raises serious concerns over safety.
