Make a noise about airport expansion at a major public rally on Saturday
Local people have been invited to ‘Make A Noise’ about airport expansion at a major public rally on Saturday (31 May).
Thousands of people from west London and beyond are expected to converge on the village of Sipson, site of the proposed third runway, and take part in the formation of a giant human “NO”.
The event is being seen by campaigners as an opportunity to the keep up the pressure on the Government to abandon its plans to expand Heathrow airport.
It is being organised by the Stop Heathrow Expansion campaign, which is backed by community groups, charities, politicians and local authorities including Hounslow Council.
The council’s lead member for aviation, Cllr Barbara Reid, said: “The opposition to airport expansion is getting stronger and stronger and the Government would be wise to listen to the growing coalition of people from all backgrounds who say ‘NO’ to expansion at Heathrow.”
Hounslow Council is part of an alliance of local authorities, representing over six million people, which have pledged their opposition to the Government’s airport expansion.
Hounslow is a leading member of the 2M Group of 19 local authorities under Heathrow’s flight paths. 2M has joined forces with a new group called CO2 or ‘Councils Opposing a 2nd Runway’ at Stansted Airport.
Between them, the two groups represent more than seven million people.
