If you are homeless, eligible, in priority need and not intentionally homeless, you are entitled to assistance from a local authority, if you also have some connection with the borough. The law calls this the local connection.
You have a local connection to Hounslow if any of the following apply:
you have lived in the borough for at least six out of the last twelve months
you have lived in the borough for at least three out of the last five years
you have a direct relative (parent, child, brother, sister) who has lived in the borough for at least five years
you have a permanent job in Hounslow
you are connected with Hounslow for another special reason
you have a connection with another area but someone in your household might be under threat if they return there
you do not have a connection anywhere. For example, you have been discharged from the army
If you do not fit in to one of the above criteria, we will refer you to the council where you do have a connection, this is called a section 198 referral.
We will not force you to return to a place where you have experienced, or are likely to experience violence.
