Hounslow Council

Intentionally homeless

If you are homeless through your own fault, we have no duty to find you long term housing.

You might be intentionally homeless if you lost your home as a result of something you have deliberately done, or failed to do.

There are many ways that you can be seen to be intentionally homeless but the most common reasons are:

  • you were evicted from your home for not paying your rent when you could have paid it.

  • you gave up your accommodation when it was reasonable for you to stay there.

  • you have been a perpetrator of violence or anti-social behaviour and have been evicted from your home because of this.

If you have colluded with your landlord, parent or friend or created a situation where you have been asked to leave your accommodation, to get housing through the council, you will not only lose any accommodation that has been provided to you, but you can be charged with fraud and fined £5000.
