Major equipment and adaptations

Help with mobility in the home

If you have substantial difficulties with moving in and around your home, we may be able to help. In some cases we can provide major pieces of equipment or carry out home adaptations to help you maintain your independence and quality of life.

In order to work out just how we can help, we would need to carry out an assessment.

After the assessment, we will agree your needs with you and discuss the most suitable help and support available.

What is available?

Once we have assessed your practical needs, we can then consider which pieces of major equipment would work best for you.

It could be a stair lift or a hoist to help your carer move you around your home. It may even be an adaptation to your home such as installing a ramp or a level access shower to help you remain independent.

Another way to keep your independence is by moving into sheltered or supported housing that has been specially designed to suit your needs.

How much will it cost?

The costs of supplying equipment or carrying out adaptions to the home will depend on what is required.

Can I get help with the cost?

It may be possible to get help with the costs, particularly if you are on benefits.

We can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) on your behalf which will include details of your finances. This means that the amount you pay towards any equipment or adaptation work will be calculated based upon your income (and any savings you may have).
