If you find it difficult to manage at home and you have a hearing problem, there are services that can help.
What do we do for hearing impaired people?
We offer a service to adults with a hearing impairment. We have a specialist worker for people who are deaf or hard of hearing and access to a sign language interpreter. Our trained staff will arrange for you to be assessed to find out what you are able to manage and what you find difficult.
This service includes:
communications such as learning Braille, touch typing;
specialist equipment for the home such as TV loop systems, flashing door bells, smoke alarms etc
advice on concessions such as freedom pass; and
the disabled persons railcard.
We also have a range of specialist equipment on display at the Calen Centre Resource Centre.
Sensory impairment team
We carry out specialist assessments for people who have a hearing impairment and who meet the criteria for a service.
Assessments can be carried out at home or at the Calen Resource Centre, Feltham. The Calen Centre also has a sensory resource room where the public can try a wide range of specialist equipment. To learn more see the page for the Calen Resource Centre.
Following assessment a range of specialist equipment may be provided such as flashing alarms and phone amplifiers. Specialist rehabilitation officers can provide advice with communication methods and training in mobility and daily living skills.
