What help is available for children, young people and families?
Counselling and practical support for families under stress
Social Workers offer counselling and practical support to families under stress. The emphasis is on keeping families together and helping them to work through their own problems. Occasionally it is necessary to arrange alternative care with foster parents or in a residential home; usually this is temporary.
Social Workers are responsible for investigating suspected child abuse and will work with families where this may be a problem. They are often asked by the courts to prepare reports on a family’s background, and will work with the family to do this.
A confidential service can be given to young people in any kind of difficulty.
