Direct payments for carers

Direct payments is money we pay you for you to arrange your own care instead of receiving the care directly from us. To receive direct payments you have to have been assessed and be eligible for needing help from us.

As a carer, you can use the payment to buy services from an organisation or to employ somebody to provide assistance. That support may give you the time you need to look after your health and feel rested.

Direct payments can be made to carers aged 17 or over (including people with parental responsibility for a disabled child, and disabled people aged 16 or over).

Direct payments for arranging care and services are not the same as direct payments for pensions and benefits paid directly into an account.
