We think it’s extremely important that our residents are able to get out and about to see friends and family and participate in activities. Public transport is key to this and there are a number of schemes out there to help if you need it.
Getting around London
Freedom passes allow you free travel on all London Transport 24 hours a day, and from 9:30am on National Rail services. There are two types - the Older People’ Freedom Pass and Disabled Person’s Freedom Pass. Please click on the appropriate link for more information and to apply for one. Transport for London also provide a door-to-door transport service called Dial-a-Ride for people with permanent or long-term disabilities who are unable to use public transport.
Shop-mobility in Hounslow is a service that hires out battery-powered scooters, power chairs, and manual wheelchairs to enable people to independently do their shopping and make visits in central Hounslow.
The Hounslow Taxicard Scheme allows London Borough of Hounslow residents with a mobility impairment, which prevents them from using buses or trains, to travel in the contractors’ licensed radio taxis - black cabs or Private Hire Vehicles at subsidised rates.
Going further afield
You may also be entitled to a Senior Railcard or a Disabled Person ’s Railcard.
Parking
The Blue Badge scheme helps people who are registered blind, or people who have severe walking difficulties, to be parked closer to shops and services they need to access. Once you have your Blue Badge, you can also apply for a parking bay outside your home.
Car loans
Under the Motability Scheme, if you have a disability and are receiving the higher rate mobility component of the Disabled Living Allowance, you might be able to use your allowance towards the purchase of a car.
