Direct payments for carers

Direct payments is money we pay you so you can arrange your own care instead of receiving care directly from us. To receive direct payments we need to assess your needs to see if you qualify.

As a carer, you can use the payment to choose, manage and buy the services and support you need. You can also use the money to employ someone to help you in your caring role. This support may give you the time you need to look after your health and feel rested.

Direct payments can be made to carers aged 17 or over (including people with parental responsibility for a disabled child, and disabled people aged 16 or over).

Direct payments for arranging care services, are not the same as direct payments of pension and benefit money, paid directly into an account.

They will not affect any benefits you may currently receive.
