Carers education training programme

If you care for someone experiencing mental health difficulties , you may be interested in attending our carers education training programme.

The training is co-led by carers and developed in consultation with carers, psychiatrists and Rethink. It aims to provide carers with information about mental illness including topics like:

  • causes

  • treatments

  • medications

  • side effects

  • early warning signs

  • what to do in a crisis

It also gives carers the opportunity to work together in a relaxed, social and fun atmosphere, sharing expertise and experiences with each other.

The programs objectives are:

  • to provide information about cause, treatment how to manage the illness and recovery

  • to help identify problems whilst trying to manage the illness

  • to develop strategies to deal with problems

  • to help relatives and carers to communicate in a positive, uncritical way

  • to help both carers and the cared for person become more self-reliant and independent to find ways to develop emotional and social support outside the immediate family
