Recycling in schools

Paper and cans

All schools in the borough are entitled to a recycling collection of paper and cans collected from wheeled bins on a weekly basis. You can also request recycling boxes for your classrooms to use for paper and cans recycling. A maximum of 10 can be ordered through our email at the bottom of the page.

Cardboard

A cardboard collection can also be provided to all schools in the borough. Schools can purchase an 1100 litre cardboard bin for a one off charge of £250+ VAT. Alternatively the school can request to convert one of their existing 1100 litre refuse bins into a cardboard bin free of charge.

Food waste

Following a successful trial of the collection of food waste from five primary schools, the service has now been extended to all primary schools in the borough.

Compost bins

Schools can purchase compost bins at subsidised prices:

Textiles

Primary schools can have a collection for shoes and clothes through the clothing contractor LMB. For every tonne of clothes collected LMB will pay the school £200. For more information please visit the LMB textile recycling link which can be found on the right hand side of the page.

Additionally, the Sport into Schools London 2012 Inspire project exchanges unwanted textiles for sports equipment to enable children and young people to care for the environment and try new sporting activities; helping them become healthy, environmentally aware, active members of the community. The project also offers free membership to the Wastebuster online education programme

Education in schools

Assemblies and classroom activities are available to schools in the borough for recycling at home or recycling at school. These can also be linked in with current subjects and topics classes are working on.
