Business rates do not cover the cost of commercial, sometimes known as ‘trade’, waste collection or handling. Legally all businesses must make arrangements with either the council or a private company to collect their commercial waste.
SITA operate commercial waste collections on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow. Commercial waste disposal is a specialised field and we recommend consulting a range of companies to manage the needs of your business.
Alternatively, commercial waste can be taken directly to Space Waye Civic Amenity Site. This will be weighed and charged at £210 per tonne for mixed waste. This is subject to change.
At Space Waye it is recommended that you organise and recycle as much of the material as you can to save money. A clean load of a single recyclable material, eg garden waste, cardboard, timber, scrap metal etc, will only be charged at £80 per tonne.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 34 Duty of Care, businesses are obliged to dispose of trade waste in an appropriate manner. When moving waste, persons must be possession of a waste carriers license and Waste Transfer Note. All records of waste disposal should be kept for three years. Officers may ask for your commercial waste contract at any time. If businesses are found to be without proper commercial waste arrangements this could lead to a fine of up to £1000.
