Recycling from your flat

Houses of multiple occupancy, house conversions and flats up to six properties may use the services designed for houses; for more details about household waste please see our household recycling page

You can recycle your household waste if you live in a block of flats using the flats recycling system. These bins can normally be found in or near to your bin store, or at the entrance to your flat.

The flats recycling system allows you to recycle the following items:

  • paper – including newspapers, magazines, envelopes, junk mail and telephone directories

  • food tins and drinks cans, aluminium foil and trays and aerosols

  • clear glass bottles and jars

  • green glass bottles and jars

  • brown glass bottles and jars

  • flattened cardboard; and

  • plastic packaging – including plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays.

Place the correct item in the correct bin, and it will be collected once a week for recycling.

Plastic and cardboard recycling bins are currently being rolled out across the borough during 2011/12.
