Hounslow Council

Clinical waste

Clinical waste is waste that originates from health care procedures and facilities. However, some households have clinical waste as a result of on going treatments or post operation after care. These waste needs to be handled safely and kept separate from other types of household waste.

Do you require clinical waste collection

If you produce waste that is considered as hazardous and can be infectious to other humans, you should request for a clinical waste collection.

Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste requires treatment. This waste contains blood, human tissue or other infectious body fluids. In addition, waste containing hypodermic needles, whatever their use, should never be disposed of with household waste.

We can arrange for this type of hazardous waste to be collected from residents free of charge. Please ask your district nurse to refer you to us.

Nappies, sanitary protection and incontinence pads

This type of waste is classed as offensive or hygiene waste. They are predominantly non infectious, hence do not require treatment.

These items should be securely tied in a black sack and placed with your household rubbish on the morning of your rubbish collection day.

Please ensure this type of waste is properly wrapped and free from excess liquid.

Clinical waste collection commercial properties

If you run a healthcare service, all clinical waste from your premises will be classed as hazardous waste.

If you would like the council to collect your clinical waste from your business please contact us, and we can set up a collection contract for a small charge.
